In Loving Memory of Ed Steele (1940–2003)
Ed Steele was a dedicated educator, leader, and advocate for the Deaf community. A graduate of both the Georgia School for the Deaf and Gallaudet University, he devoted much of his life to education and service.
Ed taught English at the Georgia School for the Deaf for many years, inspiring generations of students through his commitment to learning and communication. He was also the founder of the Georgia School for the Deaf Alumni Association, creating a lasting organization that strengthened connections among alumni and preserved the school’s rich heritage.
His leadership, dedication, and passion for education left a lasting impact on countless lives. Ed’s legacy continues through the alumni association he established and the many students, colleagues, and friends who benefited from his guidance and vision.

Ed was one of 11 Deaf men who helped NASA. (Deaf Difference + Space Survival Exhibit Video under Gallaudet Univ website.)
His name was Alvin Steele, but we knew him as Ed.
